Waihi Beach
Waihi Beach offers nine kilometres of sweeping white sand, and one of the safest surf beaches in New Zealand.
Relax on the beach and enjoy the sunshine or partake in more adventurous activities such as boogie boarding, kayaking or kite boarding. Karangahake Gorge
Located 20km from camp, between Waihi and Paeroa, the Karangahake Gorge offers walks though beautiful native bush, long tunnels and magnificent views.
The rich gold mining heritage of the area can be explored, and picnicking along the river is a great way to spend time with family and friends. |
Orokawa Bay
Orokawa Bay is a 2.6km walk from the west end of Waihi Beach.
This idyllic beach has an almost tropical feeling about it, and one cannot help but to relax as soon and you step onto the sand for the first time. Photo gallery Martha Gold Mine - Waihi
The Martha Mine is one of two hard rock gold mines operating in New Zealand.
Mining in Waihi has a history that spans three centuries. However the Martha open pit and Favona underground operation that exist today are very different to the underground mine which operated in the early days. |
